GOLDEN ROSE AWARD INFORMATION

Orlando Diocesan Council of Catholic Women

Each year, parish pastors are asked to seek out a young woman from their parish or school to nominate for the Golden Rose Award.  This award was established by the National Council of Catholic women not only to recognize young women who exhibit outstanding qualities in Spirituality, Service and Leadership, but to encourage them to become members of a local Council of Catholic Women affiliation.

The award is open to young women ages 14-21.  In our Diocese, our Bishop has chosen to invite every parish to participate in this program – even if the parish does not have an active Council of Catholic Women.

The way the ODCCW administers this program is to assign a committee every two years to our board.  This committee then interacts with each Deanery in the Diocese to get an assigned contact, at the Deanery level, to communicate key information to the affiliates.

The nominees are not recruited by the Council of Catholic Women – the pastor or youth minister or faith formation director at the parish is responsible for this activity and is responsible for completing the paperwork required.   The CCW affiliation president (if a CCW parish) writes a letter of recommendation to be included in the paperwork that is sent to the Deanery Golden Rose contact and subsequently, what ODCCW sends to NCCW.
Once the paperwork has been completed, pastors send completed applications and nomination forms to the Deanery Golden Rose contacts.  The welcome letter includes the names and email addresses of the Deanery Golden Rose contacts.  All applications must be received by the Deanery Golden Rose contact by January 8th of each year.  Each Deanery is responsible for choosing a Golden Rose nominee, whose name is submitted to the ODCCW Committee members no later than January 22 of each year.  The Deanery contacts and the ODCCW Golden Rose committee and any designated by Deanery Presidents will choose the recipient of the ODCCW Golden Rose no later than February 3 of each year.

The 6 Deanery Golden Rose recipients will be invited to the ODCCW Convention for the Golden Rose luncheon, receive a Golden Rose, a certificate, an NCCW membership, and a $150 award.
